FOCUS OF PRACTICE
Mr. Pettit limits his practice to civil litigation, labor and employment law.
He has been in practice since 1974, representing both individuals and businesses
in a wide variety of lawsuits. He concentrates his litigation practice in
the business, medical malpractice, employment, and personal injury areas.
Mr. Pettit’s experience has included the following types of cases:
a) Defending individuals and businesses in adversary proceedings arising out
of a Bankruptcy; b) Legal malpractice; c) Business and commercial disputes,
including the enforceability of Covenants Not to Compete and Trade Secret
laws; d) Employment Contracts and other contract disputes; e) Real Estate
Contracts disputes, including Leases; f) Corporate Litigation, including Shareholder
Derivative suits and Stock Valuation disputes; g) All aspects of employment
litigation, both Federal and State, as well as in the administrative forum;
h) Litigation under the Fair Dealership Act, franchising laws and the Wisconsin
Securities law; i) Insurance litigation, including coverage and contract issues;
j) Litigation surrounding Wills and Probate, including Will contests, Will
construction litigation and litigation regarding fiduciaries; k) Professional
Negligence; and l) Personal injuries.
In addition to employment litigation, Mr. Pettit assists our business clients
in dealing with all aspects of labor and employment matters, including the
negotiation and administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements. A significant
portion of his time is spent advising the firm’s business clients on
day-to-day employment issues with an end to avoiding or minimizing conflicts
with the many and varied employment and labor laws that exist today.
Mr. Pettit has also been asked to serve as an expert witness in legal malpractice
matters. In addition to all Wisconsin State Courts, both trial and appellate,
Mr. Pettit is licensed to practice in the Federal Courts in the Eastern and
Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
He additionally has tried both Federal and State lawsuits in other jurisdictions.
