I have dealt with several worthless check issues in court, and all have been favorable. My lawsuits asked for and received tripple damages plus all costs. All were in small claims. One led to garnishmet actions, which also worked out well.

Its too bad that you cant just go to the cops and have the offender dragged away, but there are recources.

Often, were we have tenants who don't seem to have sufficient funds or history to make them a viable rental candadate, we ask them to provide a co-signer ( often a parent) and when we have problems with bad checks, the co-signer is always notified , (and told) that they are responsible for the check and any costs awarded through a lawsuit. This ususally works well.
